Grignolino variety
The Grignolino variety is part of the ancient Piedmontese grape varieties, and is mostly cultivated on the hills between Asti and Casale Monferrato. However, it is quite common to find even some Grignolino vineyards in the province of Cuneo and in the Oltrepò Pavese area.
The history
The grignole of Grignolino
The name “Grignolino” probably comes from the dialect “grignole”, a term used to identify the berries of this grapes, because they are very numerous.
Another name for this variety, however, only used in the past, was Barbesino.
